It really is a cool gun, with the 28" barrel and 9 shell magazine. The guys at Hodgdon helped me put together some modern smokeless loads which are less then Trapdoor velocities and pressure. I've got no reason at all to push this old gun hard. Regarding the shooting story... My uncle is one of...

I've got an 1881 in 45/70 with serial number 16xx. My great-grandfather's gun, in my safe now. Over the years I've slowly picked up extra parts for it, mostly springs. The best place to find them is at a Collector's Gunshow, and ask specifically at any "Marlin table" if they have parts. I ...

Heck, I'd buy one! BUT... Since the factory decided not to produce the 475/480 due to pressure concerns, I'd say the chances of us ever seeing one are slim at best. I've seen the folks on the big bore forum at MarlinOwners talking about Wild West Guns in Alaska making these right now... For a price...
