Vintage Marlin Stock Interchangeability

I understand that 1894 and 1893 buttstocks are one and the same. Any other models? 1892, etc.?

Buffalo Arms and Whyteleather Arms can fix you up with bullets. You'll want .379 to start with. I like the softer bullets so that they will bump up better if they are near or slightly larger than groove diam. Get you a set of RCBS Cowboy dies as it has two expanders, one for .376 and one for .379 or...

My take, IMHO, is that if you don't properly fit and perhaps glass bed the tang areas, you will experience the same thing with those heavy loads.

Go ahead and bed the tang, thats the only way to combat recoil and prevent cracking.

Its a 336C with pistol grip. Recently, I found a model 1936 (first year) in 30/30 w/full case and 98% condition. Gander Mtn had it mismarked as an 1893 and wanted $1200. I argued that the price needed to be adjusted which only hdq can do. I waited for a call from the manager as to price and in the m...

Many of the 1893/93 rifles were drilled for the old receiver sight at the factory. To me, modern replacement wood or slopped on varnish is a pretty significant flaw. Most of the demand for 93 Marlins right now comes from the Cowboy action crowd seeking rifles for side matches and from people just wa...

Marlinman has it right. VG is a highly subjective term. Now I'm perfectly content that Marlins have less of a following than Winnies. But back to pricing, if a Marlin has even a smidgeon of that gorgeous case coloring and blue (not brown) watch the price go out of sight. For full case and blue it's ...

I'll inspect everything above. Privy to bolt pushing hammer. I'm not sure I understand about friction with the hammer when it already cocked. The same problem exists whether cocked or uncocked.

Anyway I'll yank the stock this weekend and see if I spot anything.

Stiff 1893 Action

Except for one rifle, all my 1893's have fairly slick actions. This, a 38/55 made in 1901 has more closet wear than actual use. It's not pristine but has some blue and case left. The problem occurs as the bolt comes back about half way (lever almost at 7 o'clock) it really starts to bind and takes a...
