The "What's it worth" topic!

I often see posts here from folks who've picked up or ended up with a fine Marlin rifle, and they want to know "What is it worth?" Often times the only information given is what model it is, and what cartridge the gun fires. That's the equivalent of someone saying I have a 1965 Corvette wi...

Troubles with new members trying to join?

I've been told by several people who've tried to join this forum that their attempts never went through? Also that they sent a message to "administrator" and got no reply to their request this route also.
Is there a problem with the forum that's stopping new members from joining?

Re: MARLIN 1895 cal.45.90

We would need pictures, serial number, and more information to guess what your gun's value is. Since the 1895 Marlins were made before and after records ceased, there's no info for a large number of them made after 1906. So hard to say how many were made. Estimates are maybe 10,000 total, but we don...

Re: Can you tell me the correct model if this .22 lever action

I bet your lever gun has a tang sight, and that sight is covering the model designation. My guess with an S prefix is a Model 39, but if it has the tang sight you can remove the two screws and confirm the guess.

Re: 1893 Marlin 32-40 with 32" Barrel

When I was collecting pre WWI era Marlin lever actions my favorites were any model with extra length barrels. In the 1893's I found quite a few with 28" barrels, but 30" or 32" are extremely rare. In the smaller 1894 model I saw quite a few with 28" barrels, but never anything an...

Re: 1881 Ejector

It wouldn't be prudent for any of us to tell you your gun is safe to shoot without a hands on inspection. The part your gun is missing can possibly be found at either Wisner's Gun Parts, or by calling Larry Osborn who sells Marlin screws and used parts. 208-651-6300 That's PST zone Idaho.

Re: Marlin 1893

Early Model 1893 Marlins wont have a rollstamp on the top tang so yours not having one is correct. The cartridge is stamped on top of the barrel, just in front of the receiver. Often pretty lightly stamped, so use a magnifying glass and you'll probably read it. If you were to slug the bore it will a...

Re: Marlin marked paper patched bullets. can I ask you something?

Here is a couple of boxes of .40 caliber paper patched bullets I recently found. [/img] [/img] Nice! Those would likely be for the .40-85 Everlasting or .40-63 Everlasting Ballard cases. I have some .44 caliber 530 grain ...

Re: Marlin marked paper patched bullets. can I ask you something?

If you're lucky enough to find a box of Marlin paper patched bullets you'd be crazy to use them! They are like any old boxes of bullets of the era, highly collectible, and you might as well roll down your window on the freeway and throw money out! I collect old Marlin and UMC ammo and components, an...

Re: 1894 with 1889 extractor and hole all numbers match

Almost every 1889 or 1894 I see that's been cut down began life as a 28" barrel. With 24" being standard, and the most often barrel length ordered I think owners later after the original purchaser didn't care for the long 28" barrel and just chopped them down without regard to getting...

Re: 1894 with 1889 extractor and hole all numbers match

Is that 23.5" measurement total barrel length, or to the face of the receiver? If it's total length then it's definitely cut as Marlin didn't build them with a 23.5" barrel.

Re: 1894 with 1889 extractor and hole all numbers match

Some early 1894's were actually assembled using 1889 receivers, with 1894 lower tangs, and internal parts. I owned an 1894 carbine in .38-40 made in the first couple weeks of production, and it used an 1889 receiver, and barrel, with 1894 parts, and lettered as an 1894. Your gun is late in 1894, and...

Re: 1889 question.

28" barrels are not that common, but not rare regardless of cartridge. When I was chasing early pre WWI Marlin lever actions I always liked finding any with extra length barrels, and the longer the better!

Re: 1894 1903 32-20

If you post good images here, and an accurate description of the bore there are several guys here who could help with a value. But without very good images, or hands on visual inspection I wouldn't trust anyone who says they can estimate value and not need these things.

Re: Marlin 39 magazine tube

Thanks for the info Vall. You and Hank have been quite helpful. I think I can make a screw based on Hank's picture and dimensions. My next question is if the screw head holds the spring back and compresses it as you take the outer tube out? I thought it just went with the outer tube when you pull i...
