1881 light rifle in 45-70
I have an 1881 Marlin rifle that appears to be a light rifle, but large frame, the barrel is marked JM Marlin but the interesting thing is that is marked 45-70 not 45 govt? The oct. barrel is 24' and tapered as well. I believe they made some of these for export to Europe? Does any one have more info...

I did see one 1893 reworked to a 50/110 about 6 years ago, a gunsmith had built it, kind of wish it was a production gun, that a hard hitting cartridge. There is a Marlin cartridge listing for 1885 for the Model 1881 Lever gun and it shows 5 cartridges the largest is 45-85 Marlin. I have never seen ...
