Re: 1895 half magazine Octagon barrel .40-82
So the serial number of your rifle is Axxxx. That would mean it was made sometime between 1916 and 1921. Can you post some pictures of it?

Re: When was My model 93 made
I would say your rifle was made sometime around the 1930-1931 era. During the depression years Marlin dropped both the bullseye and the star. Yours still has the star and others in your serial number range have the bullseye.

Re: When was My model 93 made
Does it have a bullseye in the bottom of the buttstock?

Re: Marlin model 1893 dates
Sounds like a standard Model 1893 that was made around 1916. I believe the new company started out with serial number A1 so yours is one of the first batch. They do not bring any more or less money than other 1893s.

Obviously a Ballard rifle. If you could post some pictures maybe we can identify it.

Re: Interesting Model 1893 on Gunbroker
?What's with the goofy marking on the tang. The 3 in 1893 looks double stamped and the E in MODEL looks deformed"
Probably why it was still on the shelf or parts bins. I guess the cash strapped Marlin Firearms Corporation thought it was good enough and made it up into a rifle.

Interesting Model 1893 on Gunbroker
I have added this one to my data base. Basically it is a Model 1893 carbine in .32 Special. However it has the star by the Model 1893 stamp and a bulleye in the buttstock. This would put it as assembled after 1921. Serial number is 441165 and by the forearm. Here is a link to the auction. http://www...
