Re: Glenfield/Marlin model 50

RRC; I can find only 2 references to a Model 50. One is Marlin's first semi-auto .22 caliber rifle manufactured between 1931 and 1935. The other is a Model 50 Glenfield 12 gauge shotgun manufactured between 1966 and 1979. Is there any way possible for you to post photos of the rifle and the barrel m...

Re: Troubles with new members trying to join?

Vall; There are certain email addresses that have been banned and cannot register. These were banned because of spammers that filled up the website with unrelated information. One of those email addresses is gmail.com as it was one of the worst for the spammers to use. If any of the people you talke...

Re: manufacturing date

Bob; A Model 1897 will not have a letter "S" prefix to the serial number. A Model 39, which was the model that followed the Model 1897 did have letter prefixes. If your rifle is a Model 39 (marked on the upper tang, behind the hammer ) and has the letter "S" as a prefix, then it ...

Re: 12ga, Marlin Model 90 and Ranger 103-10 with 30" Barrels

BarkeyVA;

According to the old Marlin catalogs, right up to the end of production, the Model 90 in all gauges ( except the .410 ) was chambered for the 2 3/4 inch shells only. The .410 was chambered for the 3 inch shells.

Re: Model 81receiver sight

Rook:

The proper Lyman receiver sight for a Marlin Model 81is the model 57MR or the Marlin 12R is another. You might check eBay as sights do show up there from time to time.
Good luck........

Re: ROLL MARK ON A MODEL 30, 16 GAUGE BARREL

BUSSMAN69; Page 352 of Brophy shows a chart with the patent dates for each model of the Marlin shotguns. Now it may be possible that your Model 30 is early enough in production that a correct marked barrel was not available and the Model 16 barrel was installed. Marlin was not a company that let par...

Re: Marlin model 336 CAL 35 REM

CanuckleHead; This is an easy one, your Marlin Model 336 was manufactured in 1972. The first two digits of the serial number indicate the year of manufacture. Marlin did this for a short time, but dealers complained that using the first two digits of the serial number was "dating" the inve...

Re: 1881 Ejector

Villachaise; Your Marlin Model 1881 is too early for the factory records, but Marlin did make some Model 1881's with a 26 inch barrel. To be sure, it should measure exactly 26 inches. There is no plus or minus on the Model 1881 barrel length, unlike later Marlin rifles that can vary as much as 1/8 t...

Newmarlinfan;

According to the old factory records, your Marlin Model 1893 with serial number 96674 left the factory in mid 1893 with a 26 inch octagon barrel in .38-55 caliber.

Re: Marlin model 97

CrestTactial; A Model '97 with a serial number in the 374,000 range would have been made sometime about 1907. Records end at 355,300 in December of 1906, so your gun was made just after that. If you need screws, contact Larry Osborn. He information can be found in the section of the website titled &...

Re: 1889 question.

Gunutz;

Unfortunately, your Marlin Model 1889 has been shortened. The factory records show that your rifle left the factory with a 28 inch octagon barrel in .32-20 caliber in late 1890.

Re: Marlin "G" grade external hammer pump shotguns ??

BUSSMAN69; The difference of the "G" models is internal. Page 358 of Brophy explains that these are improved versions of those models with the "G" designation. The designation was made so as to make ordering replacement parts easier and to insure the correct parts were ordered. A...
