The only consistent thing I see about Ranger, Higgins, and Marlin mod 90's is that they are greatly inconsistent!
So what year would you place mine in - '37 to '41? I can now assume it was special ordered with a recoil pad, and checkering?
Arrrrrrh...still haven't shot this ol' girl yet!

May be a tough task, or already done, but has a list been created of 'family owned' Rangers with serial numbers and remembered date of purchase created? Did Sears checker their guns, with a different checkering pattern, before '45? Brophy's book said 'Marlins' were not chekered prior to '45. What I ...

Is that horizontal 'Z' bar the auto safety? Looks like it may be removed from mine. Mine is not auto safety.

I just bought a Ranger 103-6 / Marlin Model 90 20ga. I believe it's from 1941 (no engravings) # R 2342. There is a part on the bottom firing pin that is very loose and rattles when you shake the gun. Any one familiar with this issue? I'm not sure if it is just very worn or missing a spring or someth...

I think they call it the Marlin bug...but it was disguised as a Ranger 103-6! Hey all, just new here, and came home with a 20ga. Ranger 103-6, # R 2342, 28", DT, 6lbs 8ozs. on my digital fish scale. She has some issues such as a cracked forend (been repaired), cracked stock (been repaired), ref...
