Is it safe to shoot modern .22 LR ammo from a Marlin Model 20A? I picked up a Frankengun (very old 20A with a Winchester Model 67 barrel fitted to it), that looks to be in good shape. I broke it down and cleaned it and everything appears to be in good order.

OK - I think I know what might have happened. It looks like someone may have installed a Williams Ramp Front Sight Base or something similar on this gun. They are held on by a screw into a dovetail, aren't they?

Thanks Gentlemen, My barrel has a 2" long flat area about 1/4" wide where I assume the front site ramp went. About 3/8" front the start of flat on the muzzle side is a 3/8" dovetail. It looks kind of like this: ___________ ..................................................._____ ...
