Re: Rimfire ammo

While it is technically possible to 'reload' rimfire ammo, it is a very tedious, potentially dangerous and usually inconsistent process, really suited only to a true hardcore survialist situation. It is not a good idea to try. Even finding the correct 'heeled' bullet is nearly impossible. At this ti...

Re: Marlin A1 family

Excellent! Mine is the final variation. I really like the 'man-sized' stock. Fits my large frame and hands and my long arms well.

Re: Model 99

IIRC, the Model 99 shares it's inner workings wih the earlier Model 60(?). Numrich has many parts for the Mod 60. Might have what you need? I have read of owners needing to replace the cast metal feed block. Numrich has these, the last time I looked.

Re: Marlin A1 firing pin removal

I have an A1 with the bolt's small parts missing. Is there a source for parts for these rifles? Numrich doesn't have them.

Re: Convert 1892 or 1897 to .22WMR

The SAAMI specs list BOTH .22 LR and .22WMR as 24,000 PSI - not a problem pressurewise for a modern gun. But the action simply would not be long enough, in my non-professional opinion. These pressures also assume modern high-velocity ammo, while the old guns were designed for then-standard pressures...

Re: marlin 80

Good list - I copied it for my records! Thanks! My own Model 80DL has the older rifling, the straight-combed stock, actual walnut wood with 'Marlin bullseye', and no scope grooves. I have it fitted with the Lyman 57 peep sight in Lyman 57MR base, and Lyman 17 front globe sight. Makes a nice basic 't...

Re: peep sight for an 81DL

Another alternative for the Marlin 80 and 81 is the Lyman Model 57 aperture sight, on the Lyman 57MR base - it bolts onto the Marlin screw hole pattern. My Model 80DL wears one now.
I got it via Ebay.

Re: model 99 m-1

Expect to pay nearly as much for the rear sight alone as for the entire rifle - they command collector-grade prices, when they can be found.
I agree on the threaded barrel - someone modded it!

I have an old non-functioning A1, that needs a complete bolt assembly. I use it's magazine in my 80DL, and it works perfectly! There is SOME interchangability - between exactly which models is sometimes questionable.

A call to Rifle Basix is in order, I think. The 80/81 trigger mounts with pins instead of screws, so it is different. On my 80DL, I removed the trigger and polished the engaging surfaces - be sure to go easy and not change any angles! I used ultra-fine emory paper (for scale modeling). I also change...

Look at the top of the chamber - you should see a curved piece of sheetmetal, forming the bullet guide. This keeps the cartridge from stove-piping. If missing, it could possibly cause the problem. This piece is replaced by removing the barrel - so a gunsmith needs to look at it.

I have the 80DL and love it - but would not have put up with that nonsense. Here, I paid $150 for mine at a local pawnshop, plus tax and $8 for the NICS check.
Keep looking and you'll find one locally - they aren't that rare.

Newer buttplates will likely be too small. The old 80 and 81 series had beefier stocks - one big reason I like them. Fits me better. Check on ebay for gun parts - sometimes a seller parts out an old rifle, or they sell the old stock of a retired or deceased gunsmith. Look for the Marlin 80, 81 or ev...

Walker, I answered on your other question, on bolt removal. The 88 just doesn't have any 'bolt hold-open'. I wish it did - it would make cleaning a lot easier! I like this rifle. The 'man-sized' walnut stock. The excellent accuracy and very good reliability of the gun. My only gripe is the early she...

Howdy, sorry for coming in a bit late here. I own a Model 88, and it has it's tricky bits. 1. First, make sure it's unloaded. This rifle has the butt-mounted tube magazine. 2. Remove the buttplate/magazine tube from the stock. Be careful - mine had been broken once and crudely rewelded! 3. Remove th...
