Model 1893

Post by Rootcrmc » Mon Jan 13, 2020 11:02 am

I have a pre-1905 Model 1893 that I am interested in selling. I am asking $500 for it. I inherited this from an in law who owed me money.

After doing some research through Marlin's website, this rifle, with full magazine tube, was manufactured in 1904 or earlier. The serial numbers at that time were stamped at time of sale, not manufacture. This was stamped in 1907.

They stopped stamping Model 1893 in 1905, and changed it to Model 93. This is stamped Model 1893.

I can send pictures to those interested.

The information you "quote" regarding serial numbers and model markings are incorrect.
The information stating that the model change happened in 1905 was published in 1989. Since that time, new information and research has determined that the model marking "Model 1893" was used up to 1920, and that the marking "Marlin Mod. '93" started in 1921.
I do not know where you got the idea that the serial numbers were stamped at the time of sale is totally wrong. The serial numbers were stamped during the manufacturing process prior to finishing the parts so that the parts of the gun would get back together after all the parts were finished. The date listed in the old factory records are the shipping date from the warehouse. There are instances in the records where some guns sat in the warehouse as much as 2 years later than other guns with serial numbers in the same range.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there be no warning shot!

What caliber, barrel length and profile, pistol grip or straight stock, what does the buttstock look like?

Pictures? I'd be very interested.
