Serial Number history Mod 60

Post by busykngt »

I have a Glenfield Model 60. Is there any website I can go to input the rifle's
Serial Number and find the date of manufacture (kind of like the Taurus
website has)? I'd sure appreciate any comments back (thanks).

Busykngt;

You do not input the serial number, but if you go to the first post in the General Gun Questions and Answers on this site, you can look up your serial number information for yourself, or post the first two digits of the serial number and someone will tell you when it was made........

Thanks gunrunner !!!

If I understood correctly, my S/N 19443462 would have been made in 1981.
That was apparently next to the last year that the Glenfield name was
put on the gun (from what I gather). I've owned it since I bought it new;
I just couldn't remember when I bought it (...they say memory is the second
thing to go...). So that makes it thirty years old this year(!)...gezz, time
flies.

Regnier, I appreciate your help very much - thank you. You wouldn't happen
to have any experience with "red dot" scope useage for it, would you? (Looking
for a recommendation as to which scope is best for these old failing eyes).
Thanks again.

Busykngt;

1981 would be the correct date for your Model 60 Glenfield rifle. But, the Model 60 Glenfield was made up to 1982, and the Glenfield name used on other guns to 1983.
Sorry, I cannot help about the scope. Guns in my collection generally do not get past the date of 1930.
I am sure someone here will be willing to give you some help on that subject...........

Gunrunner, thanks again - I wasn't clear on the use of the Glenfield name.
The Wikipedia article was helpful for me to read earlier today - especially
the changes they had made to the rifle but obviously left me a little
confused about the Glenfield name. Thanks for straightening me out about
it. And thanks again for confirming the manufacturing date. All the best.
