Marlin 39 Century LTD. 1972 Serial Number

I have a Marlin 39 Century LTD. At least that is what the barrel is stamped. I understand that the century models had their own distinct serial numbers? Mine has a standard Marlin serial number starting with 72 which would indicate manufacture in 1972. The Century LTD as I understand was manufactured in 1970. My rifle has an octagon barrel, and a pistol grip stock.
