Marlin 1893 Smokeless or Black Powder

Post by Rhbk4472 »

I am new to this forum and I have just purchased a Marlin 1893 in 30-30 which was manufactured in 1895. The barrel on my gun does not have the smokeless special designation nor does it have the additional screw on the left side as has been mentioned for strength. I would like to shoot this old gun, but I'd like to do it safely and also not damage the gun by firing modern high pressure rounds. Thanks for any help that you can give me.

The 1893 models made in .30-30 are all smokeless rifles. It can handle any standard modern .30-30 ammo. I'd steer clear of anything that is sold as higher than normal rating, but everything else should be fine if the gun is in good working order.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
