Need Gunsmith for 1892 in NY

Post by RPR »

I'm hoping forum members will have a good recommendation for a gunsmith. I have a @ 1908 manufactured 1892 .22 with round barrel and Lyman peep sight that is in otherwise great shape. It appears entirely original, although the magazine tube may have been refurbished at some time. Yesterday, after a day on the range, the trigger spring appears to have snapped. It is certainly no longer in working order.

Given it's historical and sentimental value (it was my grandfather's from new and came to me from my father), I am looking for a reputable gunsmith familiar with older Marlin lever action rifles who can effect the repair while maintaining its originilaity and integrity. I am located in Westchester County in New York (between NYC and CT) and would prefer a local gunsmith but will compromise on location for assurance of a well regared Marlin experienced gunsmith.

Thanks very much for your time and any helpful information you can provide.

Trigger springs not a hard fix if you have the right screw drivers to avoid buggering the screws. You can get a new spring from wisnersinc.com.

John,

Thanks very much for the advice. I'm not sure that I have the confidence to go at this one myself because I would hate to do any damage to the stock or the screws trying to remove them.

I did see a reference in a previous post (note to self: search first ;-) to a Marlin lever gun specialist (DRC?) but this job doesn't really seem to merit his skill level. I think it just needs a well regarded, competent gunsmith.

Ani ideas on such a smith in NY would be of great help.

Regards,

Richard
