What would be the correct factory sights for a Model 1892, serial number range put it in 1901, .22 cal, with octagon barrel? Would the Model 1891 .22 cal sights be correct or the Rocky Mountain front and rear ?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Marlin Model 1892
The Model 1891, 1892, and early 1897 all used the same front and rear sights. The front sights varied though, and some are seen with a small nickel silver blade, while others used a small front sight where the blade and base were one piece, similar to Lyman's versions.
The rear was a Rocky Mountain small buckhorn that was about 2.5" long, and used the "harpoon" elevator. The elevators for the .22 rifles was a smaller version of the ones used in CF rifles and less "harpoon" shaped. And the CF rifles used the same sight, but about 3.5" long.
Here's one on Ebay that appears correct for the .22 rifles.

And this fixed blade would be a good choice for the front sight.

Re: Marlin Model 1892
Thank you for the info and the Links. I didn't realize all those Models used the same front and rear sights.I thought the Model 1891 sights were used on the 1892 until 1907 and then the 1892 used the Rocky Mountain sights. This info makes it alot easier finding the sights. The original sights for the 1891 are scarce.

J7I2;
An alternative correct set of sights for the Model 1891 are the .22 calibre sights as pictured on page 637 of the Brophy book. These will be harder to find, but correct. The Rocky Mountain sights were available and used as well.
Good luck with your quest.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

That's what I thought I had read. Appreciate the info. It seems Marlin sights are not very easy to find.
Thanks for the info.

Re: Marlin Model 1892
Ignore all the guns the seller says those sights fit, or are correct for. The sights for a 1891, 1892, or 1897 are not correct for a lot of other Marlins. That's simply an Ebay sales pitch to gather in more buyers.j7l2 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2019 12:49 pm Thank you for the info and the Links.
