Marlin Model 93

Post by Pasquinel 11 » Thu Jan 09, 2020 9:50 am

Hello, I’d like to introduce myself.
I am French, former military and a fan of the history of the American West (Cowboy, Indians, trapper...) and also of weapons like the Colt, Winchester and of course Marlin.
I’m going to buy a Marlin rifle model 93. I want to know if possible its year of manufacture (it is very difficult).

The markings are as follows:

Marlin
MODEL 93

On the barrel :
The Marlin Firearms Corporation NEW HAVEN . CONN .U.S.A – PATENTED SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL 30-30

Serial number under the lever : C 963

MARLIN SAFETY

A 20-inch gun and load it to the length of the gun.

Nothing else.
Thank you in advance.

Pasquinel 11;

The Model '93 came out after 1921. With the "C" letter prefix to the serial number, it will be later by a few years. There just in not enough information on the post 1921 guns to know exactly when some of the letter codes were used. The Model '93 was replaced by the Model 1936 in 1936. So, we do know this Model '93 was made sometime between 1921 and 1936. A reasonable guess might be in the 1924 time frame if we go applying the alphabet to each of the following years after 1921.
The Marlin Firearms Corporation existed between 1921 and 1924. But, the company that took over after 1924 used left over parts to assemble guns and in some cases, used the Corporation roll stamp to mark guns the Marlin Firearms Company made for a while.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.

If the world was perfect.......it wouldn't be.

I have a few more questions. What kind of ammunition can I use so as not to cause my Marlin too much pain? Can I use commercially available ammunition? If so, what brand and power? Or should I reload cartridges and what kind of powder?

Your newer Model '93 should handle almost any modern .30-30 ammo as long as it's not something crazy.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
