Marlin Model 97

Post by Teakwood »

Greetings everyone,
I have a Marlin Model 97 .22 lever action rifle, serial #A 697. It was handed down to me from my father many years ago and I would like to know what year this model was manufactured. The rifle is in really good shape for its age. Would really appreciate any information on this model.
Thanks to everyone.

Jim;

The "A" prefix to the serial number indicates that Model '97 was made about 1916 while the company was run by either the Marlin Arms Corporation or the Marlin-Rockwell Corporation.
The Marlin Model 1897/'97 was made from 1897 to 1920. It was reinvented to become the Model 39 in 1921.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
