My 38-55 Model 1893

Post by thomasrodco »

Here are a few pics of my late brother's Model 1893. Chambered 38-55 and manufactured in 1899.
When I got it, the stock had been broken, and the broken piece and original butt plate were long gone.
I had looked into replacing the stock, but couldn't find a "shotgun style" buttplate stock available anywhere, so I decided to just fix the original. The black walnut I used to replace the missing piece matches really well!
I also plugged the two screw holes that were holding the pistol grip tight, now that they are glued.
I also couldn't find a replacement butt plate for it, but ended up buying a plate for a model 94 from gungrip.com and modified it to fit perfectly now.
Now that its done, I'm very glad I went this way. I'm very happy with how it came out, and it still has the original, serial numbered stock!
Hoping someday I'll find a full length, original magazine tube for it. The open dovetail at the muzzle bugs me..
