336 in 250 Savage?

Post by natman »

I was reading an article on the history of the 336 in the November 2006 issue of shooting times and was floored to read that Marlin made the 336 in 250 Savage using Remington model 14 spiral magazine tubes! Was this a one-off experiment or did this ever reach production? Anyone have a picture?

They never reached production, and I think there were only 4 prototypes made, maybe less.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!

I've looked at some Rem 14 & 141s & have never been impressed with the whole spiral mag tube idea. It doesn't surprise me a bit they did not proceed with the idea. SW
I am really not an expert - distinguished or otherwise!!

You're right Marlinman, on this being a prototype. If you recall, I mentioned this about two weeks ago in a post and said that Dick R. had two of them. He had a display of the two a number of years ago at our annual show that was held in Kansas City.
