hey guys im new to the site im Kris from Northern California, here is my 39D anyone tell me anything about it? and how do you know what year it is? is it in the serieal#?
check it out...
The 39D was made for a few years in the early '70's. It has a 20" barrel, pistol gripped stock and a different forearm that has a band rather than a cap like the regular 39A that has a 24" barrel and forearm cap.
Very nice example you have there.
I will guess yours is a earlier built one since it has the white spacers which were dropped on the 1973 built rifles.
This list will tell the date using the serial number.
1946-C
1947-D
1948-E
1949-F
1950-G
1951-H
1952-J
1953-K
1954-L
1955-M
1956-N
1957-P
1958-R
1959-S
1960-T
1961-U
1962-V
1963-W
1964-Y,-Z
1965-AA
1966-BB
1967-AC
1968-AD, -68
1969-69
1970-70
1971-71
1972-72
Starting in 1973, the year of manufacture maybe determined by subtracting the first two digits of the serial number from 100:
Example: SN 2512345 would have been made in 1975 [100 - 25 = 75].
wow cool thanks for the info, my grandmother gave it to me a while ago, and my grandfather re did all the wood on it, and recently got it re-blued, so its in excellent shape, thanks again
