I haven't seen the Marlin Owners website or their forum. I just tried and the server is not responding. I read this discussion and I wonder what this site needs to spark more dialogue. There are a lot of members but it seems like not a lot of posting at times. What does the marlin owners site have that we could use? If it's just categories we can set up additional topics and what ever people want to discuss. I tried setting up a joke areas and there is not much interest. I visit several sites on other topics and they have a lively discussion on many topics, not just related to the site name. Maybe somewhere to post pictures of the largest deer or elephant or hippo that you shot in your back yard. A bragging section ? Just wondering what people want to discuss.

One thing they have that would be a good fit here is the reference section. They post everything from dating a Marlin, to easy repairs and modifications. It would be a great place to be able to find things like Jim D's work on case coloring or the how to make an 1889 spring.

With all due respect, the name Marlin Collectors Association implies that this a site for old(er) Marlins, where antiques are discussed and not Marlin firearms in general. The name is what brought me here when I was looking for info on a couple older rifles and they weren't that old! Mr fixit

How about a gunsmithing section? Something for repairing and restoring Marlins and Ballards?

I am just the guy who takes care of the website but I don't think Marlin Collectors Assn means old guns only. I would think anyone who owns a Marlin, new or old should be able to find information on this site. I also don't see why "collectors" should have to be stuffy and not discuss other things. If a group of people come together because they have a common thread in their lives that doesn't mean they can't discuss more than just that common thread. That is how we learn from each other, that is how we become closer friends, that is how we build relationships. Just my humble opinion

Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to dilute the good dialogue and discussions going on in some of the areas of this site but look what we are doing here. We are discussing something other than old Marlin's. I like the idea of a gun smithing and or how to area, where these very bight folks on this site can share and catalog their knowledge for others to read. Keep up the discussion on possible topics.

tips and tricks (advice) for "slicking" up Various models, everybody knows Marlins shoot good, but some like them to shoot better. I don't know about the "big boys" but the rimfire boys like to tweak up their .22s'. Mr fixit

Its a real diverse site, Marlin owners I mean, focused on Marlins but theres ALOT of off topic stuff. I'm not sure that would go over right here but I never thought about it either. It actually developed from a core group of people from the old Marlin Talk forums that Marlin had on their site.

As has been mentioned theyres a refference section made up of member contributions. We were starting to try & make it more user friendly when it croaked. I dont think it had anything to do with us tho.

I think this site would benefit from a gunsmithing type section. Just look at all the attention Jim's caseing thread got & his spring tutorial. Things like that are priceless IMO, I mostly come here to gain knowledge about Marlins & think thats how most view it. That said if theres discussion going on I'll discuss. Things like that I think spark conversation & other ideas that lead to lots of discusion. Once it starts if theres enough people it'll take off.
