Marlin 39A Golden
I have bought a 1974 Marlin 39A Golden.22 Cal. Does the "Golden" have any specific meaning? Also, what is the additional gadget on the hammer for? Did this model- year have a hooded front sight? Thanks to anyone who answers. James
Re: Marlin 39A Golden
Congratulations on your new Marlin! Your rifle will likely have a gold plated trigger; thus the name Golden. Your hammer may have an offset hammer spur (mounted with an allen wrench set screw). This feature allows your thumb easy access when a scope is mounted. I find the factory sights (Yes, with the front hood) to be quite satisfactory. The factory supplied a scope base for ease of mounting (no drilling/tapping required by the owner). The scope base and the original front sight hood are likely available from Marlin's parts department. While you're at it, you may as well ask them for a free owner's manual. I always suggest a thorough examination and cleaning before you head to the range. And remember to go light on the oil. Enjoy your new rifle!
One ragged hole is a beautiful thing.
