I have the opportunity to purchase what I belive is a Model A-1, mounted on an 88 stock, and I am looking for information on the A-1.I cannot find any manuals for this model. Is this rifle good, bad, or indifferent? It has a dovetail sight and a ramped front sight with hood, and the peep sight is missing.I like the idea of having a rifle from the '40's, I'm a sucker for old tools and this would be my first firearm. I am just looking to shoot paper and tin cans with maybe a little squirrel hunting. I am having a little problem with the feed jamming but I only have 14 rounds through it and I have not tried any different ammo. I also understand that is no provison to keep the action open for cleaning, is this correct? I expect to pick this up for $30.00 or so if it is a decent rifle. I have found an '80's era Model 60 for $70.00, so if the A-1 is not a good shooter I have another option. I can't seem to get the pics to post.
Thanks for any help and information.

Hello Mals9 – Now that you “belive” it’s an A1, let me disabuse your theory about the stock. It’s an A1 stock, probably the one it was wearing when new. And I’m not sure what your expectations are for $30, but you just might be better off with the Model 60. RounderRick
Re: Seeking information on a Model A-1
Thanks for the reply but I am just curious if the gun is considered a good model. It is in good condition overall and I will get it for cheap because it is a friend of mine. I say it is an A-1 based on answers on different forums and comparing it to the parts diagram on the Numrich's site. The barrel says "22 long rifle - greased" which I am told was on the A-1. I am just looking for a "fun" .22 that I can play with and teach the boys to shoot with, I am not expecting to match the quality and precision of a new gun or a vintage Model 39. Got the pics to work

Re: Seeking information on a Model A-1
Mals9;
I guess I do not know what you expect for $30.00, but I would buy the gun. Certainly try different ammunition in it to see if that helps the situation. Remember, the barrel says ".22 Long Rifle, Greased". Where do you get greased ammuntion these days? The old externally greased ammunition was the problem with a lot of older guns malfunctioning as the burnt powder and grease built up inside the action, which is why it eventually went away.
Good luck...

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Re: Seeking information on a Model A-1
Not expecting the world from it just looking for information. There does not seem to be much out there for this model. I was told it was in production for maybe 5 years total so that may explain it. More curious than anything else, I like to try and track down as much info as possible just for the knowledge. I was wondering about the "greased" ammo part. I have to believe that this should not be an issue but if I get a chance to shoot it soon I will find out.
Thanks
