Stock and forarm for a 39A

Post by Gmanpoke »

I have a few question for a 39A. The serial number G4223. My understanding (which maybe wrong) is the rifle was manufactured in the mid-to-late 40's. Can someone verify this or correct my understanding.

Also, the stock and forarm aren't very good and I want to replace them. Would this period of 39A had a checkered stock and forarm? Would there have been a piece of plastic at the end of the pistol grip? Plastic butt plate?

Thanks in advance

Your G prefix will be 1950. No checkering available then. No grip cap, but they did have a black plastic buttplate, with Marlin logo on it.

Thanks Marlinman. I really appreciate the information. Would you or anyone else know a source for the stock and forarm.

My 39A looked like this.

I ordered a stock set from Numrich for a Marlin 1897 Century Limited. The price was right at $48 for the stock and $24 for the forearm. The 1897 has a octagon barrel so the forearm required a little fitting to work with the round barrel. It was an east fit, I used the barrel from a AA Mini Mag Lite with some sandpaper wrapped around it. A little sanding and checking fit and it went right on. The stock also needed and little fitting at the tang which wasn't difficult, a little sanding and filing here and there is all it took.

Here's a pic.

Your new stocks are first class. The originals are pretty good too.

I am fitting my 1897 stocks to my 1972 39a Golden. I bought them awhile ago. I don't know if they still have them.
