Marlin 410 shotgun

Post by dickaye »

I am in the market for a Marlin Model 410 Lever Action Shotgun. I think they were manufactured in the 1930s. Can anyone tell me how they were serial numbered? I think Marlin currently sells a 410 lever action, but I want an old one.

Richard;

The old Marlin .410 lever action shotgun was made from 1929 to 1932. There are two different serial number sequences to be found, one with the letter "U" prefix, and one that has no letter prefix. The serial numbers themselves only reached the four (4) digit numbers or less. There are two different barrel lengths, a 22 inch and the more common 26 inch length. There are a few (as in very few) deluxe, checkered .410's and are extremely rare. The checkered versions forearm does not have the finger groove like the common version. The old .410 could only handle the 2 1/2 inch shells as the action could not handle longer shells.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Does anyone have any idea what the "u" prefix means on the original 410's?

I have just came across one of these with the checkered stock. How do I find out what year it is? Serial number is 59607.

Does your 410 have an octagon barrel? The serial number seems odd and too big for the old Marlin 410 based on the 1893 Marlin.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
