Identify my boyhood Marlin?
In 1955 or 1956, I purchased a new Marlin bolt-action .22 rifle. It had Microgroove rifling and a tubular magazine that held 21 (I think) shorts, 17 longs, and 15 long rifle cartridges. In 1962 I sold the gun to help with college expenses and now, in my dotage, I think back on the fun I had with that rifle. I have long since forgotten the Model Number, and am wondering if anyone on this forum can identify it for me. If anyone can, I'm going to try to find an exact replacement for my beloved gun of old. Thanks for any help you good folks can provide.

Bobgehman;
In 1956 or 1957, a new tubular magazine bolt action rifle would have been either a Model 81 C or 81 DL. Same gun, except the DL had target type sights instead of the open sight as on the 81 C.
I hope this helps you find your "old friend".

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Regnier, thank you more than I can say. I never thought I'd get such a quick and accurate reply. And so my quest for a Marlin 81 C begins. Thanks again.
