Model 93 Marlin Rifle Information Request

I just inherited my grandfather's rifle. It is stamped Model 93 #1465. I can't see any mark identifying the caliber.

It also is stamped "Special Smokeless Steel" and "Marlin Safety" and "Marlin Firearms Co."

I am not interested in selling the rifle as it is a family heirloom. My grandfather was born in the late 1800s.

I am very interested in learning more about the rifle. I would appreciate any information about the rifle.

It appears to be in good condition although the bluing is gone if it every had any. The receiver appears to be case hardened but it is quite faded.

I am wondering if it is safe to shoot. Of course I would have to determine the caliber first.

Need to know the location of the serial number. Is it under the lever on the lower tang, or up near the forearm wood? Caliber should be marked on top of the barrel just in front of the receiver.

The serial number is on the bottom of the receiver near the barrel.

Yes I found the caliber as you said. It is .32 H.P.S.
The stamp is so warn that I did not see it until you specified the exact location.

I understand .32 special ammo can be used.

Since this is a Model '93 and not a Model 1893, your grandfather's rifle would have been made about early 1921. Guns a little later of this era had the serial number moved back, under the lever.

Yes, Marlin marked their guns .32 HPS to avoid using the Win. nomenclature of .32 Win. Special on their guns.
Most round barreled guns were faintly marked new, so likely your caliber stamp was never stamped deeply to begin with.
