Marlin 1881 tang screw measurement ?

Post by win6798 »

I'm trying to make a tang screw for the 1881 Marlin. I had a customer send me his screw but it appears as though it isn't correct ? the thread diameter is .236. I was wondering if any of the forum members could help out ? Need :
Head diameter
Head thickness
length of shaft under head
diameter at threads
and thread pitch if you have it.
Ideally I'm trying to make all the tang screws for the pre 336 lever guns. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated....or any other early Marlin lever tang screws ,81,91,93,97 ect.

I'll assume this is a straight grip 1881, as the pistol grip model uses a different screw.
The screw head is .105" thick, the shaft is 1.675" long, diameter is .235", thread length is .25" long, and pitch is an odd one. My 36 gauge amost fits, but 40 is too fine. Looks like it might be a 37, but a 36 is close enough it might work fine. Head diameter is .329"
Hope this helps.-Vall

Sorry yeah it is for the pistol grip. Mine is also the .235 shaft is 1.947 and I'm betting that it is the same thread ? .235/236 does NOT work out for a standard die ? I think I'll try a 6mm x.07 looks almost perfect. I'm still looking everybody....keep em` coming.....help me help you in the future in case you need one of the above mentioned screw......I'll keep you posted on my results with the metric die. Thanks again talk to you all soon.....

Alright guys I figured it out. I can now produce screws for the 1881 straight grip or pistol grip.
