The A prefix to the serial number shows it was made between 1971 & 1979.

I have looked high & low for a ribbed 40" barrel for a lot of years & have never seen one. I've not seen a pic of one, either. I won't go as far as saying there were never any made, but if so, they are darn scarce. The Brophy book shows the 38" & 40" barrels plain only.

The 40" inch barrel has become collectible and oddly, the barrel itself is worth more that the gun. The 38" barrel seems to be a little more common than the 40.

They are interesting & quite a conversation piece. SW

In the blue book of gun values it said in 100% condition,$290.00,add 10%-15% for model 120 mxr with 40 inch barrel,mfg.1974-1975.subtract $35.00 if without vent rib.so they must be out there, just hard to find.mine has a 40 inch plain barrel.i had it threaded for screw in chokes,.640 comp-n-choke in it now, and put a scope on it.i use it at the turkey shoots,we shoot a 5 inch circle at 90 feet.most shot in the circle wins.
