On page 185 of Brophy's book, there is an Abbreviation in the Model 1891 Table---"O.S." . Who would like to define the abbreviation? :)

Macrl;

The "OS" designation refers to "Old Style". When Marlin reintorduced the Model 1891 as a tube loader, they refered to the Sideloading Model 1891 in the catalogs as "Old Style" and when ordering parts for a Model 1891 to let them know it is for the "Old Style" if for the Sideloading version. The "OS" designation is found in several places in the factory records when referring to parts that were changed over the years. I have seen the "OS" designation used on butt plates and some other parts.
I hope this helps.

Back to page 185, How do you distinguish the the difference between the 30 Old Style rifles indicated in the table and my 1891? My rifle is the first variation with the earlier firing pin. On page 180, the book shows a different design of the right side plate. Ideas? Thanks for previous responses.
