Re: 1897 with A prefix
The Model 1897/97 was introduced in 1897 and was listed in catalogs as late as 1917?
the Marlin family sold to investors to manufacture fire-arm's for the war effort in late 1915 it
doesn't seem the new owners Marlin Arms corporation or Marlin-Rockwell manufactured sporting
fire-arm's .It is thought that these letter prefix Marlins were assembled during the time frame
from 1916 through the end of the Marlin-Rockwell era around 1919/20 maybe the A would be
early in this time frame, maybe not but 1916 or 1917 would be a good guess. But as to when it was made
I think that would be before the Marlin family sold out in 1915.Assembled 1916 or so.
