Denver show will get you excited for KC!

Post by oodmoff »

Got back from the Colorado Gun Collectors 40th Annual Show in Denver. Ran into a few Marlin collectors while I was there. You know who you are! Saw some impressive items.

I was really amazed by the prices that were at the show, hard to believe 95% case colored 93's and '94 were in the 3500-4500 range.....gulp... if you have one get excited but then you can realize they were still there when i left (not sure how much it would have taken to get a bite).

Clarence Parks a wonderful gentlemen I got to meet for the first time from Roundup, Montana displayed a Tom Mix display that would be hard pressed to be rivaled including the model 90 that shown in Brophy's Book, what an impressive piece along with 4 1893 high grade guns include a fancy maple 1893 that I would nearly sell my car and walk to work for.

Jim Nichols had a vast array of beautiful marlins as always (now were into selling the house kinda items).

Saw a total of 4 or 5 1888 for sale two were in nice shape but were nearly 8k (kidney might get one) 1881s were abundant ranging from 1750 - 10k (spleen or arm from the elbow). takedowns that have rolled in the dirt were 1200 and up, deluxe anything started around the typical 2 mark the list goes on and on.

The highlight of the show for me was having a winchester dealer who i got to know a bit over the weekend (the sell his own mother if the price was right kinda guy ..."she comes with the original saddle ring...I can hear him saying it....that kinda guy).

Well he said he had some good luck lately selling Marlins along with his Winchesters and over the course of the weekend I'd swing by to see what he bought. He showed me a '93 with a 16 barrel that he bought and was real proud of. "What do you think of my trapper" He had a $3500 tag on it. "Beauty aint she... The gun was nearly 95% and everthing was right as far as I could tell...except...I didn't have the heart to tell him the front sight was dovetailed in.... the old shortened barrel arousky, but whoever did it did a D*** good job... you nearly needed a loop....(call me on this one if Im wrong) Who knows maybe it was his gunsmith....

All this excitement and more marlins than i can shake a stick at and what do I buy....A colt...dubt.. Don't worry I trade it down the line....

Rick R., Rick W. Todd B., Bill B. Paul, B. (nice 95) nice getting to chat with you! Take Care.. Hope to B.S. with you soon!
Thanks

You betcha Steve, btw I sure appreciate all your posts you and a few others that work to really keep things hopping, I've learned a lot. Being a young man of 30 I hope to learn as much as possible and if anything have fun with collecting. The Colorado Gun Collectors Associations Annual Show (this last being the 40th) occurs in denver typically the third week in May. It averages around 800 tables or so well worth the trip. For a list of Colorado Gun Shows I would refer you to http://www.cssa.org/events_gunshows.2004.html

See you there next year.
Thanks

Thanks! I will make every effort to attend! Can't do KC this year as wifey thinks I should stay home for the 25th anniv. Women can be so narrow-minded that way! :wink: SW

Steve;

The show dates for the Colorado Gun Collectors Association show next year will be May 19, (which is set up day and generally not open to public) 20 and 21, 2006. See you there...........
By the way, tell your wife you are taking her on a second (third, forth or whatever) honeymoon!!! She will be glad to go to Kansas City if she thinks this is a romantic getaway. Won't it be a surprise when it just so happens there is a gun show that weekend and it makes it all the better!
Congratulations on the anniversary...............
