Hello,
My step dad recently passed away and has left me the 22 he taught me how to shoot with. I do not know much about identifying or putting value on such an item as I have never owned a firearm of my own. Can anyone help me. I have gone to several websites but i don't know where to look for the serial number on it. This is what i can see on the rifle.
On the barrel it says Marlin Golden 39-a Mountie cal. 22 s,l, & lr, micro-groove barrel on the right side of the barrel is a stamp it looks like it may say IM or JM the only other thing I see is under the lever behind the gold colored triggerit reads AB24489. It is in excellent condition and has a leather shoulder harness mounted on it. It also seems to be a take down model as it has a large screw on the right hand side. The finish is perfect and has no discolorizations other than on the trigger. Any help would be appreciated
marlin golden help identify please

Hi Trenis:
Your Marlin Mountie was one of 6822 Mounties made in 1966. Yes, yours is a take-down as all were take-downs. What you referred to as a shoulder harness is generally called a sling. It is very difficult to put an exact value on it without being able to visually inspect the rifle. However, from your description, I would guess an approximate value of $250 or $275. The reason I state this amount is from your description of the trigger gold being discolored. If silver is starting to show under the gold, normally that would indicate the rifle had been fired quite a bit.

Thank you Don for replying. I was just curious about the age and value it is a fine shooting rifle and yes we did fire it alot. I have been thinking of getting another as well to show my wife and kids how to target shoot, like my step dad showed me. Does marlin still make this type of .22 caliber? And if not is there a comparable model that offers the same craftsmenship?

Model 39A
Trenis:
Marlin no longer make the 39 Mountie carbine with the 20" barrel and straight grip. However, they do make the 39A rifle that features a 24" barrel and checkered pistol grip stock. It's a fine shooting rifle.
