Model 39 Question
I recently bought a Model 39 with a S prefix serial number and a star on the tang. Where can I find info on the date of manufacture?

Re: Model 39 Question
Coldbrook;
Marlin Model 39 lever action repeating .22 caliber rifles with the "S" prefix were manufactured between 1925 and 1932.
The "S" prefix guns were made prior to high speed ammunition, and should not use any of the modern, high speed .22 caliber ammunition. Instead, you should use either standard velocity or target ammunition so as not to damage the pre-high speed guns. Using high speed ammunition has a tendency to crack the breech bolt.
The later Model 39's with the "HS" serial number prefix were the remedy to the problem of high speed ammunition and had modifications that allowed the use of high speed ammunition without problems.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
