What type of screwdriver?

Post by Marlinman »

Just curious if there is any specific tip material on a screwdriver that would be everyone recommendation for removing screws on a vintage Marlin?

Thanks. MarlinMan

A GOOD, QUALITY, set of GUNSMITH screwdrivers from Brownells.
Many makes and models to choose from. Stay away from a set made by LYMAN. I have broken so many tips on that set, I've lost count. Thank goodness they have a good customer service department, and so far have replaced them free of charge. I now use them for light work only...

I have a couple sets of Chapman screwdrivers, and have had them for decades. Very good set, with a nice bit assortment for all the narrow screw slots that older guns had. I also hollow grind screwdriver tips specifically for some screws. It's important to have a tip that fits perfectly in both thickness, and width, so screws don't get buggered.

Oh my goodness, I just went on Brownells and there is 91 different screwdriver sets

Wishbone, can you just tell me which set to get :? I won't hold you to any referral or choice. I wouldn't know what to pick.

Thanks.

Well Wishbone, since I didn't hear back from you (no worries) I took Vall's advice and purchased the Chapman 8900 set on Brownells.

I looks pretty good. I like the way the tips are designed (straight sides - not taped) and the ripped end so you can finger tighen gun screws. Pretty cool.

Thanks everyone for your input.
