39-A

Post by tsov197” »

Ok family gun question.
My cousin inherited this and I got another gun.
I want to replicate his.
Marlin 39-A but its serial number is 311732
That means made in 1931 right?
I enter it on one site and it says 1905???
Help me lol

Tsov197;

Sorry, but that date is not correct. Normally, you would subtract the first two digits from 100 to get the year of manufacture, ( i.e. 100 - 31 = 69 or 1969 ), but in this case, that does not work as that system did not come into use until 1972, So, is there a letter prefix to that serial number? Or, is the first 3 of the serial number a letter or another number? Sometimes, the stamping is not as clear as it should be and can be mis-read.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Hi, I’m not trying to hijack this post but I recently acquired a 39a made in 1945 I believe (capital C) and it’s in really good condition. What is a reasonable price? Just curious if I paid too much or got a deal.
