Model 89 30-30
My buddy inherited a Marlin, round barrel stamped 30-30, marked "Marlin Safety" on the top of the receiver, "Marlin Model 98" on the tang, SN A20## under the lever. I've been able to find nothing though the Marlin website said based on the SN it was manufactured before 1883. But since the 30-30 wasn't born then it seems very odd, Help!?

en coAlKing;
Your friend has a Marlin Model '93, not 98. The "A" prefix serial number indicates that this Model '93 was made in 1916, after the Marlin family sold the company to a corporation that went on to manufacture machine guns for WW I. The corporation continued to make a few sporting arms during the war to keep employees busy between contracts.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
