I inherited a vintage Marlin Safety rifle.i am trying to track down any information I can find on it. Date of manufacture. Caliber of the rifle. Rifle is brown finish with octagonal barrel. Can anyone offer advise where I track down this information?

Your rifle is most likely a Model 1893, shipped approximately mid-1895. The record for your serial number is blank, but the surrounding numbers reflect the above. The caliber of guns in the area are .32-40. .38-55 and .25-36 Marlin. The caliber should be stamped on top of the barrel, just in front of the receiver. The model marking should be stamped on the upper tang, behind the hammer.
