Marlin 94 25-20 hexagon Barrel

Post by Bsilber1996 »

As my father just passed away I was willed his marlin 94 25-20 hexagon barrel rifle. I am unable to find the manufacture date with the serial number. Does anyone know how I can get this?

SN - 367834

I need to know the date of manufacture so I can return the to USA from Canada with it.

Thank in advance

Brian;

The old Marlin Factory Records end at 355,500 in December of 1906. Your Model '94 with a 367,000 serial number range would have been made in mid to late 1907 or maybe early 1908. We can only estimate the date since the records are not complete. But since your gun is only about 12,000 higher than the existing records, it is a pretty good bet that the dates given will be close.
Not to embarrass you, as other people make the same mistake, the barrel is not hexagon in shape. That would be a 6 sided barrel, and in fact, your barrel has 8 sides or is octagon in shape.
Since this is considered a firearm by US laws, you may have to have your rifle transferred by a Canadian company to a US company, then have it transferred to your local FFL dealer and fill out the paperwork required. I had this done on an antique firearm, and it still had to go through the process I described at a cost of about $300.00. The only difference is that the US company could ship the antique firearm directly to me without going through the FFL dealer.
Good luck..............
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Thank you for the reply. I will take your advice and do it through a registered dealer. Also you did not embarrass me I did that too myself. I knew it was octagon just have a bunch of stuff floating around.. Many thanks again for quick and concise reply.

I hope you have a happy new year.

Cheers!

What Gunrunner is saying is correct for exporting and importing the rifle to the US from Canada. But, you have not mentioned if you are Canadian or US citizen. You need to have a firearm license in Canada in order to take possession of the rifle first. US citizens can pocess this license. Then you can submitt the serial number to the BTAF for approval and you can then transport the firearm in person at the border with btaf paperwork to bring into US. If you are shipping then you have to use an Exporter and Importer company and your FFL.

Hi Road King,
I am a dual citizen. I can get a temp firearm transport permit from the RCMP. I will contact ATF and ensure that I have the correct documentation. Thank you for the response and it will be much cheaper than shipping it down.

Hope it works out for you on the transfer. If you could keep us posted on how the process worked for you it might help someone else out. Rules can change on both sides of the border. It's been a couple of years since I have done it.
