I have inherited a Marlin Shotgun, 12 gauge pump. There is no model number on the weapon. Serial number 37089F on Barrel, serial number 35369 on two places on the reciever.

Patents Nov 6, 1894: May 12, 1896 and Jun2, 1896.

Can any one tell me about Model number, age, indication of value, is it safe to use, Etc.

The weapon is in good used older condition.

It sounds like a model 1898 - made from that year until 1905.

The issues concern proper lock up. In other words, does the gun fire with out the bolt being locked in place. If yours passes the tests, try to stay with mild ammunition such as trap or dove loads. I have fired same in mine with no trouble... I didn't shoot it a LOT, though.

The "short magnums" are trouble in these older guns & you should avoid them. The old steel is softer and deforms easily from the battering given by stouter ammo.

I'm not sure of the value. Small issues like cracked or broken fore arms can have quite a negative effect on value. Same for cold blue or added pads. SW
