Found a model 56 today in near mint condition. Wood was perfect, it looked like a fresh new stock instead of a 50 yr old. Medal was great shape 98 99 % Marlin Bullseye was missing and there was a small brown sploch on the bolt that looked like oil and dirt, not rust. Asking price $239.00.
What do you think? I have found a little info on it and it seem to be a good model.
Would love to hear some of your pros and cons. If memory is correct the only # I could find were 00 and could not make out the next # and then one more number, so if that was a serial # is was an early one for that model
1ST time here so thanks for any help.

The missing bullseye is no big deal - they are still around for a couple dollars. In the condition you describe, the price does not sound excessive.
There were around 31,100 model 56 made, so it's not all that common. When I lived in Tenn, I shot a lot of groundhogs with mine. SW
