Using steel wool, any steel wool on a gun is stupid and destroys any value the gun has.

I have several single shot 45/70's and several multi-shot riffles in 45/70 and none have the problem you describe.

The 45/70 head spaces off the rim so get that right and you will be golden.

None available. So I am looking for a universal decapper.

An octagon barrel resists flexing better than a round barrel making them stiffer, hence more accurate. Anyway that was the theory back in the day.

This is like asking what woman is best for me? Only you can answer this. My collection spans from the 1800 thru the 1990 but that is just me.
