The original Marlin records end in December of 1906 at about 355,500. Your gun with a serial number in the 431,000 range would be estimated to have been shipped in about late 1910 or early to mid 1911.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

No sense wasting your time with an email to Marlin. They do not have any records that would be of help. The Marlin Firearms Association, Ltd. has copies of any records that are available to the public. The Cody Firearms Museum has records, but the Association in reality has more information than the museum.

I am trying to find information on how to date a rifle. The serial number is B002244. I am not having any luck. Where do you find this kind of information?

This is the place to get serial number information on your rifle.
The only model of Marlin to use a "B00...." serial number was the new Model 1895 that came out in 1973. Since your number is quite low for that series, it would suggest that it was made in 1973.

Like others, I have had a Marlin Model 97 handed down to me.
I am curious about the date as to which it was manufactured.
The serial number I believe is A2443.
It has a 22' octagonal barrel.
Condition is a little rough but I hope to improve that.
Newbie here, but I hope to be of assistance to others when I can.

Your Marlin Model '97 with the "A"prefix serial number would have been made in the 1916/1917 time frame.
