So I'm trying to find info on my octagon barreled lever action Marlin patented Oct. 11, 1887- April 2, 1889 with a 38W stamped on top of the action and a serial of #76003... any info would be appreciated on what size round and what ever else I could find about

You have a Marlin Model 1889, shipped in mid-1892. It left the factory with a 24 inch octagon barrel in .38-40 caliber.
The Model 1889 was made from 1889 to 1895 in 3 calibers. The .32-20. .38-40 and .44-40. There were a very few deluxe versions made in .25-20 caliber late to substitute for deluxe Model 1894's that were not available at the time.
There were nearly 55,000 of the Model 1889 made in rifle, carbine and musket styles.
