Model 39 year of manufacture

Post by CoolWilly66 »

Now that Marlin brand has (again) been sold and appears in a bit of limbo for now, what is best way to get confirmed date of manufacture (in writing) for Model 39, S/N 4336 ? (90+ condition). Thanks!

CoolWilly66;

There are no official records for any Marlin made during this era, so there is not going to be any way to get something official in writing to confirm the date of manufacture. But, a Marlin Model 39 with a serial number in the range given would most likely been made in either the first year (1921) or early in the second year (1922) that the Model 39 was produced.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Thanks again Gunrunner! Much appreciated. My father in law owns the guns and had condition appraised at Cabela's - they said they could give a more specific value appraisal if they had specific year of manufacture - and as you stated - they could not find old enough records to date either the Model 97 or this Model 39. Thanks for your help!
