Model 336 with 4 digits (no letter)
New to this forum and have enjoyed it! I have just obtained what I believe to be a 1946? model 336. It only has a 4 digit serial number on the lower tang under the lever with “no letter”. Flat top with no drilling’s. Can anyone help verify the year? Perhaps it’s a Transition model?

Marlinlvr;
The Marlin Model 336 did not come out until 1948, so what you may have according to your description is a 1st variation of the Model 36. That said, it still should have a letter prefix to the serial number.
Does your rifle have a "closed" bolt face like the earlier Marlin rifles or does it have a round breech bolt, inside the receiver like the Model 336?

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
