First Marlin... Mod 36

Post by SJC »

Hi all. I've inherited a Model 36, and I'm wondering if anyone can offer some basic info on it.

Left side of barrel is marked thus:

GLENFIELD PRODUCTS. NEW HAVEN, CONN, USA
Model 36----------------.30-.30 Cal.

Ser. No. on tang under lever is Z222xx

The barrel looks to be about 19 1/2" in length. Mag tube is about 1 1/2" longer than the forearm. Brass bead front sight. Rear sight removed from dovetail. Williams aperture sight installed on receiver.
Doesn't seem to have been fired much. It's in overall good condition, despite some light scratches and small dings here and there. Wood appears to be walnut, and is very pretty.

Can anyone chime in? Any input appreciated.

SJC;

Your Marlin Glenfield Model 36(G) carbine with the "Z" serial number prefix was made in 1964. The Model 36 was made from 1964 to 1965. The Glenfield line is a less expensive version of the Marlin Model 336. About the only difference is the stock is made of birch instead of walnut. There were 5,930 of the Marlin Glenfield Model 36's made during the produciton run.
I hope this helps.
