Manufacturing date for a 1893

Post by jman001 »

I have a 1893 lever action, it is marked special smokeless steel and the serial number is 5871 located under the lever. I tried getting a manufacturing date at armscollectors.com but it comes as 1883, which is inconsistent with the marking august 1 1893 on the canon. Any help will be apretiated as is need to locate a new firing pin and hammer spring, the date could meke it easier, i believe. Thanks, J.F.

Jman001;

Since your rifle is marked Model 1893, and not Marlin MOdel '93, it is one of those guns that falls into a strange area. It was made sometime after 1917, but probably before 1921.
For the parts you need, go to Wisner's Inc. You can find them at http://www.wisnersinc.com. They have the firing pin and main spring. The date of manufacture should not matter for these parts for this particular gun.
Good luck.
I hope this helps.
