Model 1897 front sight

My uncle received a Model 1897, serial #218103 so made in 1901, and it has a flip up front sight. I can't find any info on the sight and was wondering if it is original. It looks as old as the rest of the gun. My aunt doesn't like guns (boo) so he wants to sell this and a Model 39 HS with a 39a barrel and I want to try and get him the best price to start at. I'll try to get a picture uploaded if I can figure it out.

Thanks.

Balzebul;

That is a Lyman #5 Combination Front Sight. It was available and used on many Marlin rifles of that period.
