1893 Marlin factory engraved

Post by ProsperFirearmsLLC »

Need help researching on a factory engraved Marlin 1893. Tried Marlin, Cody firearms museum, and Marlin-collectors forum. The serial number is in the range of the lost records era before the switch to alpha numeric. has the half octagon half turned barrel, the takedown has been professional pinned.

Came in with an estate consignment along with a bunch of matching number mausers, broom handles, p08s (those are easy) the values are all across the board from 2k to 12k and we are trying to do right by the client.

That Marlin Model 1893 on GunBroker is a factory engraved Grade 5-4 with Grade "C" checking. It is too bad someone pinned the takedown cam so it cannot be moved. The chip at the toe of the stock will hurt the value as well. Is the receiver plated? Hard to tell from the pictures and this can affect the overall value. If the receiver is not plated, then all the original factory case-color has completely faded away, again affecting the overall value.
The 414000 serial range places this gun in the 1910/1911 time frame.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.

If the world was perfect.......it wouldn't be.

I think your starting price of $3k is about right. Bidding will tell you what it's worth when your GB auction ends.
Sad about the pinned takedown, as that really hurts the value. Hope whoever wins it can reverse that modification, and repair the hole done to pin it! The chip at the toe can be fixed a lot easier, and buttplate can also be rebuilt to add missing hard rubber. Hope the right person wins it, and can get it back in good shape.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
